Purpose and goal
The project’s objective is to fully develop and demonstrate a new solution for corrosion and wear resistance, called CorroNite, in order to achieve a verified solution for the phase out of hard chrome plating of hydraulic piston rods as well as other industrial applications.
Expected effects and result
Full documentation of technical requirements for hydraulic piston rod performance. A fully developed and documented CorroNite process that can meet the requirements. Pass of full-scale hydraulic system rig testing and documenting the surface treatments capability of minimizing seal and piston rod wear as well as hydraulic oil leakage. Pass of field testing of CorroNite treated full-scale hydraulic system, demonstrating the surface treatments capability to work in real life conditions. Verify CorroNite’s low environmental footprint through a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).
Planned approach and implementation
Technical requirements for the surface treatment of hydraulic piston rods will be defined. In the next step, the CorroNite solution will be developed against these requirements. The solution will be tested in both rig and field tests and a life cycle analysis will be performed. The results will be disseminated via conference and social media.
