Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to lay the foundations for technical control challenges in residential demand response.
Expected long term effects
We managed to create a virtual battery that we used for peak shaving which is one of the application areas for energy storage. However, the virtual battery is very primitive and we have realized that much more work will be required to achieve the functionality and reliability needed for a commercial product that can be reliably integrated in trading platforms. We have through experiments identified and overcome several risks, which has led to a plan for how we will develop a commercial product. It is this plan that has enabled us to secure funding from potential customers.
Approach and implementation
The goals in work packages 2, 3, 6 are met, while work packages 1, 4, and 5 have partially reached the set goals. In these work packages, we have identified new challenges which require significantly more work to achieve the entire functionality that we had set as objective. It is mainly in the modeling in work package 1 and the algorithm development in work package 4 that the challenges exist. The project has resulted in a new road map for how to solve these problems. This work does not fit within the existing budget but will be the subject of a new project.
