Important results from the project

We have shown how circular material flows in the construction industry can reduce waste & environmental impact. Hubs can function as nodes for electrified transportation by better understanding of transport patterns. By describing the circular construction system, we have contributed to better system understanding, creating conditions for innovative collaborations & resource efficiency. 2 new applications: 1) relate to data sharing & digital twins 2) the role of hubs in balancing supply & demand

Expected long term effects

The project has increased understanding of what is required to scale circular material flows in the construction industry by highlighting the connection between policy, business models and operational organization. It shows the importance of the role of the demolition industry, digitalization, and the strategic function of hubs. The project clarifies that reuse and recycling are complementary flows and thus contribute to increased resource efficiency and reduced waste.

Approach and implementation

The project have consisted of 5 work packages involving 23 partners. It has included in-depth studies in demolition, renovation & new construction. We have focused on different types of materials (e.g. concrete, insulation, wood, plastic) & their handling & transportation. The project has had workshops on e.g., hubs as a phenomenon, business models for different flow arrangements & policy influence. Interviews, data analyses & observations have been conducted in aim to map and describe.
