Important results from the project

The project has given hope and raised the role of the biosphere areas in the aim for a sustainable future as a broker between different interests. The project has explored and concretized how we can broker peace with nature in this particular place. The results are used to find new innovative ideas for the Biosphere Office´s theme Nature´s smart solutions and as a basis for the next action program. The project has helped us concretize how we can mediate peace with nature and achieve the global goals right here.

Expected long term effects

The long-term goal of biosphere work is a change in attitude towards sustainable social development. Biosphere areas apply a sustainable future in practice, act as inspiration and role models and are arenas for the implementation of Agenda 2030. The Foresight Residence has given the Biosphere Office an invaluable opportunity to lead from the future. Foresight and the What if method have become good examples of interest to the seven biosphere reserves in Sweden and the 700 biosphere reserves of the world.

Approach and implementation

Abigail Sykes carried out the What if foresight process with employees of the Biosphere Office, the consultation group, the friend association and ambassadors. Abigail documented the process and the result in a report in national and international networks. To communicate and deepen the project, Abigail made an eight-episode podcast with invited experts. Two films present the results and document the project. The project was communicated via the press, blog posts, newsletters, website and social media.
