Important results from the project
Requirements specification for packaging material and manufacturing. Assess the sustainability of the material. Manufacture a prototype. Specification for conversion of the material. Verify the product, ie confirm material and machine modification and make a cost projection.
Expected long term effects
The project intended to investigate the preconditions for dairies and machine manufacturers to make a decision on developing the Boxer packaging and bring it to market. The project has answered those questions. Replacing the existing aluminum cover with Boxer paper wrap is currently too expensive and the parties have chosen to wait in order to study price development of paper-based materials and to assess the urgency for phasing out aluminum in packaging.
Approach and implementation
The project, in collaboration with the converter, two dairies and a manufacturer of packaging machines, has produced paper-based coated material for food purposes and tested the properties of the material. The machine builder has analyzed and tested the steps that require modification of the packaging machine. The parties have assessed the possibility of implementing the transition to paper-based packaging instead of aluminum based wraps with regard to the conditions and needs of their own organizations.
