Purpose and goal

The final delivery of the project is a drop-in solution of a bio-based and recyclable alternative to Styrofoam. Cellofibers Sweden AB is the coordinator for the project. Molded products will be manufactured in existing industrial infrastructure in collaboration with Lindepac AB. Together with the end customer, Durgo AB, completely new types of a product are developed and produced that are validated and evaluated in the field. The product is bio-based and can be recycled in the cardboard return.

Expected effects and result

The technology and business idea is to replace EPS in the existing molding industry with a cellulose-based material. We develop a drop-in solution for a simple and cost-effective transition from fossil to bio-based materials globally. The project will verify the concept with customers and the customer´s customers on a global market. We want to show that the product meets the customers´ needs and that it can be recycled in the cardboard return. The potential is very large.

Planned approach and implementation

The project begins with some fine-tuning of the recipe to adapt the product to customer needs. We then produce a larger number of foam molded products for global evaluation of the products with customer. The evaluation is iterative and we may need to adjust the product during the project. Finally, we verify that the products can be recycled in the cardboard return.
