Important results from the project

"BeKind - Circularity and climate benefits from an Bio-Electro based chemical industry - effects of restructuring of petrochemical value chains" has had as aim and objective to identify obstacles and challenges for transitioning to a circular and climate-neutral petrochemical industry, develop proposals for remedial activities for these obstacles and challenges, as well as quantifying the benefits such a change can have for circularity, climate and social sustainability. The project´s results are described in the report where the purpose is achieved and the goals are fulfilled.

Expected long term effects

The project has i) Increased knowledge of obstacles and challenges together with industry. ii) The basis for a plan with proposed activities to remedy identified obstacles and challenges has been developed together with the relevant industry sectors. iii) Knowledge has increased about the possibilities to drive the transition within relevant sectors through the quantification of circularity and climate benefits for the new value chains found in the report. iv) External outlook has taken place in close collaboration with the relevant industry sectors.

Approach and implementation

The project was ambitious in its content and scope in relation to the budget. It has been a challenge to keep the details at the right level in order to achieve all the goals in a reasonable depth. The project has had a very engaged reference group and it has been difficult to choose only three value chains to evaluate - therefore five parallel value chains within the project were evaluated instead. The project is perceived to be rewarding for the implementing consortium and participating organizations in the reference group.
