On August 26, 2021, the Swedish Government commissioned Vinnova to analyze the Swedish business population in the life science sector. The aim of the assignment is to develop a method that creates continuous statistics on the business population that can be monitored over time. The assignment has been carried out in dialogue with representatives of business, life science trade organizations and Swedish regions, and instructs Vinnova to report statistics annually to the government. Every three years, starting in 2024, the report should take a broader thematic approach with in-depth analysis of a particularly relevant area.
Recurring analysis of the life science business population provides a deeper understanding of sector dynamics and can be used for motivating appropriate initiatives and policies that contribute to strengthening Sweden as a leading life science nation. Therefore, it is of great value that the Swedish business population within life science can be described, quantified, and monitored over time.
