Important results from the project
The goal of the project was to develop a concept for radio communication that provides the opportunity to both communicate with and supply energy for printed electronics. The project succeeded in demonstrating the basic principles of two-way communication and energy harvesting using only printed components.
Expected long term effects
With the basic principles validated, the next step is to merge the separate parts into a system and improve the properties of the components, both in terms of performance but also manufacturability. Having reached this far opens up more funding opportunities for a continuation project.
Approach and implementation
The project was led by RISE, which was also responsible for most of the research effort. Invisense and Ynvisible participated as industry partners and contributed with requirements based on their thoughts on intended use cases The project was divided into 6 work packages with separate goals, but the work was always guided to a large extent by the discoveries made during the work. This method of working proved very successful as the project could be quickly steered in the direction that gave the most promising results.
