The main objectives of this phase was to actively participate at the cutting edge of wireless research and to support the growth in the area of wireless communications among SMEs and non-traditional telecom companies in the Kista area and nationwide. This was acheived first of all by reseracers from the center initiating and heavily participating in the firts two EU projects on 5G: METIS and METIS II. There after the teh center has initiated a number of 5G projects covering new vertical including drones and air-to-ground communications

Planned approach and implementation

Since the actual cash funding from Vinnova for this project was so low the way of working has been to extend the volume by constantly applying for funding for projects from other sources, typically H2020 and EIT Digital. By doing so Wireless has had a total cash budget somewhere between 15 and 20 MSEK per year, and been able to engage many more reserachers at KTH and play a significant role in the development of 5G!
