Funding from Vinnova SEK 3 000 000
Project duration December 2013 - March 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The physical site for the full-scale test center for wind power in cold climate applications shall fulfill climatic requirements and at the same time provide a highly probable chance to successfully obtaining necessary permits. The first set of selected sites had to be dismissed one by one once they were more and more deeply analyzed. Thus when the project was taken over by RISE (former SP) it was necessary to redo the GIS analysis. The further development of business plan, ownership concept, financing scenario and business model has been done as far as possible.

Expected results and effects

Both the research community’s as well as turbine and system suppliers’ interest in the test center is high. The project’s plans for the establishment of the test site have been presented and discussed at a number of conferences and its relevance is undisputed. Contacts with cooperation partners and potential future customers have been established during the course of the project and will be expanded in the future.

Planned approach and implementation

The original implementation plan has been implemented as far as possible. As the project was transferred to a new project coordinator a new implementation plan was created being based on parallel processes: In order to strengthen the project’s ability to find a suitable and feasible location, it has also been decided to focus on both the development of relevant partnerships and intensified communication with future customers and stakeholders. This work is being continued in a new project.
