Purpose and goal

The goal of the 2025 process is to create a physical place for cultural expression and meetings together with the local community. In the workshops, prototypes will be built where historical challenges are addressed and future needs for Gällivare are explored. The proposal is rooted in the place and the community, and will lead to the physical activation of the place by the river. In addition to the actual improvement of the public space, the project increases dialogue in the community.

Expected effects and result

We want the project to inspire and contribute with meaningful experiences, knowledge and experiences; provide opportunities to discover and explore the place, local nature and the cultural history of the place, and contribute with innovation and increased engagement. Our long-term vision is that Älvrummet develops into an area where local cultural history, stories, nature and creativity are highlighted and spread to other parts of Gällivare.

Planned approach and implementation

Through a place-making process, in which the residents of Gällivare are invited to participate, we want to develop Älvrummet through workshops that connect to culture, creativity and nature. Workshops are aimed at different groups such as children, high school students, the general public and municipal employees. The project will inspire and contribute with meaningful experiences, create togetherness, empowerment and commitment, as well as improve cooperation between municipal administrations.
