Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to identify a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solution that can be scaled up and handle a comprehensive and changing range of services and suppliers, complex travel patterns and the shifts between transport modalities. The challenge requires solutions that are based on principles of openness and self-organization so that they can be scaled up and deal with the diversity of complexity and change. The platform will include features that enable self-organization of the ecosystem.

Expected results and effects

The project identified effects within collaboration (process for realization), for stakeholders (customer groups), companies (service providers, sustainable business models), users (UX) and society (self-organizing transport services), for system-by-system-by-system solutions (ex. service providers for system-by-systems), and effects for urban transport systems. The project increases the competence to design a system that has the ability to dynamically follow changes in MaaS ecosystems, driven by eg. new technologies, business models and modes of transport.

Planned approach and implementation

An introductory workshop (WS) aimed at preparing the collaboration. The following four workshops were held with all parties. WS 1 appeared in a summary of the value offer for the open self-organizing MaaS platform. WS 2 appeared in a product definition (PD) and a high-level design (HND) from a customer perspective. WS 3 resulted in a PD and a (HND) from a supplier perspective. The WS 4 resulted in an agreement on working methods and regulations for the development of an MVP. We identified which resources will be needed to carry out an initial iteration of an MVP.
