Important results from the project
The project has strengthened Sweden’s competitiveness in biological production by supporting ten verification projects. It has led to increased use of national infrastructure for scaling and verification of biological projects, and enabled new collaborations, including BRIDGE Sweden with Testa Center, the DDD platform, and the pre-GMP center in Lund. The project has created new networks, laid the foundation for system transformation, and highlighted the need for continued early-stage funding.
Expected long term effects
The project is expected to have long-term effects by enabling more companies to build in-house expertise in biological production, thereby strengthening Sweden’s innovation capacity and ability to bring new medicines to market. Increased use of national infrastructure and new collaborations have laid the foundation for system transformation and a more integrated value chain for biological drugs.
Approach and implementation
The project was based on previous similar initiatives and followed the planned structure with appropriate activities and established processes. Collaboration worked well. A project extension was required due to COVID-related delays in the delivery of consumables. Otherwise, the timeline was followed, and the project was successfully carried out with the existing team’s expertise.
