Important results from the project
Through the study trip to South Korea, the representatives have gained an insight into the local innovation system and created a better picture of how innovative startups receive support with knowledge, networks and funding. South Korea invests heavily in innovation from both the state and large corporations. There are great opportunities for startups to get help with funding, office space and network. South Korea focuses a lot on international expansion and is actively looking for opportunities to create Joint Ventures with companies in other countries.
Expected long term effects
The study trip has contributed to the creation of new contacts with Swedish and South Korean organizations, which will lead to new opportunities in the future. New doors have been opened to support startups to create collaborations with Korean companies and organizations. Finally, ideas have been born about how Swedish support for knowledge, networks and funding for startups can continue to develop. For example, we can see how, with Södertälje Science Parks´s expertise in sustainable production, we can actually inspire and support South Korea towards a sustainable direction.
Approach and implementation
The implementation of the study trip was very well planned by the organizers with study visits to nine different organizations over three days. There was a thoughtful breadth of different types of organizations that included universities, incubators, accelerators and investment companies. The trip was completed through the collaboration with Business Sweden and their fantastic employees and meeting Svenska Ambassaden.
