Important results from the project

The purpose of the project was to investigate the prerequisites for more automation of the work of environmental calculation of freight transport. The objective of the project has therefore been to demonstrate a functioning system for calculating and reporting the amount of carbon dioxide to be charged on a cargo consignment transported by truck. The system designed to retrieve vehicle-generated measurement values for time, position, speed, fuel consumption and driven distance, presents an environmental calculation based on these values combined with data on the load composition

Expected long term effects

Ecotell contains a functionality that connects to FMS system and retrieves and stores data for specified vehicles. Freight related data, addresses, quantities etc., can also be uploaded to the database by using an app. A third functionality consists of a website on which users can make environmental calculations of specific shipments. With this system, operators active in freight transport are expected to be inspired to further develop systems for assessments of transport activities. Thus, environmental calculations can be made correct, automatic and more cost effective.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out with the following activities: Initial work as defined technical capabilities, data availability and user needs Construction of an automated IT system that can retrieve, store and process vehicle-generated FMS data together with a semi-automatic system to retrieve freight related transport information from carriers and freight forwarders Demonstration of the system of vehicles in regular transport. Inform about the results and the knowledge about the ability to perform automatic environmental calculation based on actual operational data.
