Project duration June 2017 - June 2020
Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme Electronic Components and Systems:

Purpose and goal

The project has developed and tested a possible solution to replace the current multi-phase transformers. There are still vast amounts of work to commercialise the new designs, however, the project have made a great leap forward by showing that this type of solution is possible A weight loss of 90% or more with maintained efficiency has been demonstrated.

Expected results and effects

The project has been very educational for the parties involved. We have significantly increased our knowledge of three-phase PFC and LLC converters. This can be applied in the design of similar converters and in design of completely different types of power converters. The project members have aquired experience in the feasibility of the solutions and will be able to commercialize continued collaboration between SAAB and QRTECH. Further, the project has created several industrial collaborations with parties outside the project based on the greatinterest in the technical hight.

Planned approach and implementation

Early in the project, a study of scientific publications where conducted to find a feasible way forward. The possible solutions where evaluated using computer simulations to get better knowledge of how the converter can be designed. The proposed solution was then applied in an actual circuit board. A significant amount of time was spent testing in the labs, since many different phenomena which appear in the design are difficult to simulate or predict. Throughout the project, the parties have worked closely with each other. At the same time, demos have been held to rate the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
