Important results from the project
The Time Travel, an immersive experience, has met our objectives. The target group of politicians, decision-makers and civil servants in Malmö´s administrations came, participated, got affected and took the issue of the city´s food system with them. Malmö has now decided to allocate 1.8 million sek for the establishment of Framtidens Matstad, a so-called action hub, in the new district of Nyhamnen, where The Time Travel will be permanented. We wanted to become talk of the town and we succeeded.
Expected long term effects
We have met set objectives. 500 politicians, civil servants and people with authority over the food system have visited the event and participated in the WS. The food system is now high on the agenda. Results include. a more extensive cross-administration work, visibility in important steering documents, e.g. Malmö´s master plan, new funds allocated for increased pilot work in 2025. We have created a base for continuation and expect to show the exhibition to an additional ~1,000 people in 2025.
Approach and implementation
The Time Travel is an immersive experience, an interactive, enveloping experience with sound, image and props. The participants were exposed to a probable future and were transported to the year 2035 when the current food system has collapsed. The experience was based on a risk analysis by Chris Hegadorn, adj prof Science Po University Paris. A desirable future was presented with possibilities based on facts from Malmö. The experience ended with an action oriented workshop, What can you do?
