Important results from the project
UrbanOasis is a food tech start-up on the mission to make cities more resilient by integrating vertical farms into the urban landscape while taking inspiration from the natural biosphere. Our vision is to create a network of indoor vertical farms that will increase the quantity of food produced in urban environments and accelerate the transition towards safe, nutritious food with a minimum impact on nature. Our vertical farming solutions, managed under an innovative business model, achieve what others have failed: make vertical farming inherently and rapidly scalable.
Expected long term effects
UrbanOasis has a new approach that will disrupt the standard of operation in vertical farming. Urban Oasis produces more food/m2 using 95% less water, 60% less land and 20% less carbon emissions. Every year each Urban Oasis will: Eliminate 6,500 kg of plastic packaging to help push Europe towards its ban on single use plastics Save 2,146,200 litres of water, to prepare areas of water stress for pending climate change Save 7800 kg of leafy greens from being wasted and further EU’s aim to halve food waste by 2030
Approach and implementation
Organic growth in small increments until 2022 is the strongest strategy for UrbanOasis . The next stage of our roadmap: 1)Refine the modular design to achieve profit margins 62% higher than the average farm 2)Introduce robotics to reduce labour and for 50% less OPEX than average farm 3)Introduce branded grow mats to reduce manual labour, optimize growing conditions, and eliminate plastics 4)Expand AI network for remote servicing, reduced energy use and 50% higher yields than average farm 5)Prepare to deploy the first franchised farms on vacant urban spaces
