Purpose and goal

Matfonden Nära is developing a model for co-investments in small-scale food production, where municipality, civil society and financial actors share risk and responsibility. The aim is to create a legal and economic prototype that makes it possible to channel capital into local food production and strengthen preparedness, sustainability and social inclusion. The model is being tested in Ulleråker, Uppsala, and will eventually be used nationally.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in a co-investment model in local food production that enables municipalities, banks and civil society to share risk and responsibility. The model is being tested in Ulleråker and will enable a first investment after the project. Long term, the project contributes to increased food security, sustainability and social inclusion by giving small producers access to capital and infrastructure – and thereby strengthening a more resilient and equitable food system.

Planned approach and implementation

1. Mapping of legal and financial conditions for co-investments in local food production. 2. Co-creation with municipality, bank and civil society to develop a common model. 3. Testing of the model in Ulleråker as a basis for the first investment. The result will be a prototype that can be spread nationally and give more municipalities tools for local funding and preparedness.
