Purpose and goal

This project aims to develop significantly improved fuel cell components enabling ground and flight demonstrators while laying the foundation for future product development and certification. The goals are: Strengthening technology and solutions through industrial and academic collaboration, improve fuel cell stack and system performance (kW/kg), increase operating temperature at take-off and investigating two-phase thermal management to reduce weight for heat rejection.

Expected effects and result

Expected results are that the projects fuel cell core components are verified up to TRL5, enabling integration into a ground demonstrator. As a proof of concept for future flight demonstration initiatives. And establishing a clear pathway from technology verification to certification and product development, while reinforcing Sweden’s role in the international aviation supply chain. The academic collaboration promotes knowledge transfer & new research directions.

Planned approach and implementation

The development of the fuel cell components is conducted in parallel to verify subcomponents individually before final integration. The design is based on existing technology and complemented by advanced simulations and early testing. After design and manufacturing, each component is tested and analysed; where necessary, adjustments are made before the final testing.
