Purpose and goal
The aim is to replace fossil-based phenol and formaldehyde with tannin from Swedish forest raw materials and renewable formaldehyde produced in Perstorp. The goal is to demonstrate the scalability of tannin-based resins at an industrial pilot scale and ensure they meet industry standards for performance and cost-effectiveness
Expected effects and result
The project aims to transform the value chain for resin production. This transition involves a change in the production processes to adapt to the natural variations of tannins. Despite these changes, we expect that the technical performance and functionality of the final products will remain unchanged.
Planned approach and implementation
The project´s hypothesis is that tannin-based resins can be formulated to match or exceed the performance of traditional petrochemical phenol-formaldehyde-based resins, while offering significant environmental benefits
