Important results from the project

The project has largely achieved its objectives, resulting in a clear vision and a feasible structure for a world leading Swedish excellence cluster in photonics-enabled innovation. Key outcomes include the formulation of four strategic shifts, the development of the “Convergence Excellence” concept, and a strengthened shared understanding of photonics as a strategic capability.

Expected long term effects

The project has laid the foundation for a Swedish excellence cluster with the potential to become among the world-leading, where internationally leading research in photonics is combined with innovation that delivers impact in advanced systems. Over time, this creates the conditions for a stronger scientific position, increased industrial uptake, and the development of competitive solutions across multiple sectors.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out through a combination of analytical work, dialogue with key stakeholders, and the gradual development of the vision and structure. The work largely followed the original plan, with ongoing adjustments based on insights from stakeholder interactions and external analysis. Collaboration functioned well and contributed to strong alignment and quality of results. No major external obstacles arose, although the process became more iterative than initially planned.
