Important results from the project
The doctoral network within Swedish Mining Innovation has during the project period successfully arranged several workshops where doctoral students active in research in mining and metals issues at various Swedish universities have met to network with each other and with actors in industry and government. According to plan, the network has continued its work to broaden the doctoral students´ understanding of the sector and increase contact with future potential employers.
Expected long term effects
The long-term effect is that PhD students educated at Swedish universities become aware of ongoing research along the value chain at various higher education institutions in Sweden. They have also had an increased opportunity to build a contact network even before their dissertation, both to fellow PhD students and to potential future employers. Conversely, companies and authorities have had an opportunity to get in touch with the doctoral students and give them input on career development.
Approach and implementation
We have organized thematic study trips to Swedish mining districts (Bergslagen, Skellefte District, Northern Norrbotten), sent a delegation of doctoral students to the Raw Materials Week in Brussels, arranged panel debates at the ORU@Mining and LatNord conferences, study visits to Talga and Swerim in connection with the SMRID conference in Luleå. During these, the doctoral students have had the opportunity to present their research to other doctoral students and to invited participants.
