SMIs SME-network worked before, during and after the event with various activities to broaden the network and enable new contacts as well as business opportunities.

Expected long term effects

Swedish Mining Innovations (SMI) Innovation idea competition 2023 has met the goals of increasing the interest of SMEs to apply for the competition but also to participate in SMIs SME-network and there actively contribute to the challenges that the large companies in the Swedish mining cluster have identified. Nine SMEs has attended a mining event in Tucson and there created new international contacts and possible new business opportunities for innovative ideas in an international market.

Approach and implementation

Already 6 months before the Innovation Idea Competition took place, work began on drawing attention to the event via Swedish Mining Innovations´s digital channels (website, LinkedIn, Newsletter). Targeted e-mails and phone calls were sent to over 300 people. Other well-known actors within the mining cluster, both individuals and organizations, were invited to spread the information about the competition, which contributed to wide and good dissemination. It was also sought to spread to innovative actors outside our Swedish mining cluster, also widely among Swedish universities.
