Important results from the project
The aim of this project was to map medical technology companies that conduct R&D in Sweden. The results should describe the magnitude of the companies R&D, what type of R&D they do, and how the companies experience the conditions to conduct R&D in Sweden.
Expected long term effects
The project resulted in a mapping of 271 medical technology companies that conduct R&D in Sweden. Moreover, a survey was responded by 58 companies. The results describe the demography, trends and challenges in the industry and is summarized in the report ´Medicintekniska företag med forskning och utveckling i Sverige´. The mapping contribute to an overview of the industry which is of high value to Swedish Medtech, Vinnova and other organizations that work to promote research, development and innovation.
Approach and implementation
The mapping was conducted in several steps. The companies was primarily identified by searching on relevant SNI 2007 codes in Nordic Business Key but also from Vinnovas data base on medical technology companies. A few companies was also identified by visting the web sites of incubators and science parks. To calculate the export value SCB data was used. A total of 271 medical technology companies was identified in the mappin. 202 of these companies were contacted to participate in the survey and 58 eventually responded (response rate 29 %).
