Sustainable water purification - recycling and further refining

Reference number
Coordinator RISE Acreo AB - RISE Acreo, Hudiksvall
Funding from Vinnova SEK 250 000
Project duration November 2016 - March 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project will not apply for a step 2 implementation of the innovation competition. There are several reasons for this. Specifically, when the winner´s price is undefined and the business potential is difficult to calculate in number of kronor. In Track 1, it is difficult to connect the solution to the test bed, and it is difficult to define clear assessment criteria’s. In track 2, the priority to increase the dry matter waste is lower than track 1 from the needs owner perspective. Focusing only on Track 2 does not solve the main challenge to do something sustainable with the waste sludge.

Expected results and effects

The project will not apply for the second step. There are several reasons. Specifically, when the winner´s price is undefined and the business potential is difficult to calculate in number of kronor. In Track 1, it is difficult to connect the solution to the test bed, and it is difficult to define clear assessment criteria’s. In Track 2, solving only this track does not solve the main challenge to do something sustainable with waste sludge; the higher priority from the needs owner perspective.

Planned approach and implementation

The work consisted of four workshops. The project will not proceed to step 2 due to: Price, the problem owner desired that the winner calculates the business value based on volumes of sludge produced and that the solution has a significant market potential for other water treatment plants by themselves. Track 1 has a weak connection to the test bed. The assessment criterions for designating one winner is difficult to define. Trace 2 does not solve today´s challenge of how handle sludge waste in a sustainable way.
