Purpose and goal
SUSTAINET-Advance aims to develop sustainable, resilient, and secure digital infrastructures for future 6G networks. The project aims to improve energy efficiency, strengthen network reliability, and reinforce integration between telecom and energy systems. SUSTAINET-Advance advances AI-driven automation, fiber-based sensing, and zero-trust security frameworks. The goal is to ensure reliable, climate-neutral connectivity and strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty.
Expected effects and result
SUSTAINET-Advance will deliver validated prototypes for energy-aware operation, fiber-based intrusion detection, and trustworthy AI control, demonstrated in real network environments. These results reduce outages and energy use, improve grid–telecom coordination, and strengthen cyber-resilience. The project accelerates innovation, boosts industrial competitiveness, and supports national strategies for secure, climate-neutral, and future-proof 6G infrastructures.
Planned approach and implementation
The project implements a coordinated, multi-layered approach: defining requirements, developing sustainable and resilient architectures, advancing scalable optical connectivity, and designing trustworthy AI-driven automation and zero-trust security. Work progresses through tightly aligned WPs, combining modelling, prototyping, and operator-driven validation. Demonstrators in real network and smart-grid environments ensure that solutions are practical, efficient, and ready for deployment.
