Important results from the project
The aim of the project is to replace toxic cupper-based wood impregnation with an environmentally-friendly wood impregnation. The impregnation should protect the wood from attack by insects, microorganisms and fires. Furthermore, the impregnation should be durable over time. The project results showed clearly that one of the tested environmetally friendly impregnation materials protected wood from, e.g. rot and fungi. The increased initial cost is expected to be saved in the long-run by decreased maintenance costs of the wood.
Expected long term effects
In short, the project resulted in new ways to drive innovation in the forest-based sector. From rich experimental material general learnings and interesting results were extracted. The results will form the basis for an application to a bigger project. Already in this pre-project some optimization of impregnation was developed.
Approach and implementation
A strong team, a complete value chain from research institute to end user with world class skills generated together successful research, development and innovation.
