Purpose and goal

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The aim of the project "Sustainable and secure metal and mineral supply" was to mobilize actors to identify and formulate missions, related challenges and the need for system innovations that can solve the major strategically important challenges to secure our raw material supply of sustainably produced metals and minerals with reduced footprint (within the planet´s boundaries). The goal of the project also came to include how a program office would be designed and financed.

Expected results and effects

The mobilization process resulted in a merger with Jernkontoret´s feasibility study and thus a broadening to the entire circular flow of metals and minerals from exploration and mining to metal processing and recycling. Mobilization has also led to the involvement of actors necessary to the fullfillment of identified mission. The expected effect is that a future impact innovation, through a powerful program office and relevant tools, will ensure sustainable and resilient metals and minerals supply for the societal transition, but with a reduced footprint.

Planned approach and implementation

The mobilization process was carried out through three open workshops, participation in Vinnova´s meetings, project meetings and outreach to relevant actors. At these meetings, the mission, measurable objectives, system innovations, tools and actors necessary to reach the identified mission were identified. The program office and possibilities to secure funding were discussed. An anchoring process of proposed program took place with funders of the program office, and letters of support were collected. The documentation formed the basis for application to Impact Innovation.
