Important results from the project

The project´s goals were to develop a shared vision of the future, prototype future scenarios, develop a co-creation method and share insights. Through the Futures Labs, a vision for the Old Industrial Area emerged; a diverse and green district evolving organically from its industrial heritage. Prototypes explored future possibilities, and the co-creation method helps challenge and improve planning processes in areas facing similar challenges.

Expected long term effects

The four prototypes developed serve as a bridge between the project and continued co-creation. The event drew great attention and could become a recurring part of the area´s development. The digital prototype, that allows the future to be experienced and tested, can be expanded over time. Prototype furniture in the street space inspires further full-scale testing. The dialogue lunch marked an important starting point, for a continued collaborative process, with next meeting planned in November.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented through a series of Future Labs - collaborative workshops between the project group, politicians, civil servants, property owners and business representatives. Results were compiled between labs and formed the basis for further work. The four prototypes were developed gradually and gave Kalmar residents opportunity to explore future scenarios. The methodology for co-creative urban planning was summarized and packaged into an accessible presentation that can be shared.
