Purpose and goal

The project´s overall aim has been to contribute with knowledge about efficient transport and supply chains. Focusing on financial flows in the supply chain, the research project has gained great interest from logistics companies, manufacturing and trading companies, the banking / fintech industry, academia and students. The project has contributed to lengthy discussions on practical solutions with potential impact on both freight forwarders´ business models and industry-wide standards for information sharing and streamlining physical and financial flows.

Expected results and effects

The project has international impact through advice to the UN agency UNCITRAL and the international freight forwarders association, FIATA, and by workshops and discussions with business representatives. In addition, about ten scientific and more practically oriented publications, increased collaboration internationally and across disciplines at University of Gothenburg and students have benefited by lectures, theses supervision and business games. The muchlarger group of researchers focusing supply chain finance continue to improve efficiency in supply chains.

Planned approach and implementation

The interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers in finance, logistics and law; the companies SKF, DB Schenker, Danske Bank and Nordea as well as FIATA have stimulated new approaches, thoughts and service offers. The empirical work is characterised by workshops, interviews and discussions. Cross-disciplinary science is challenging, but the mutual understanding has deepened during the project, which is manifested through co-authored publications and continuation in other research projects with the research group, extended with Applied IT.
