Important results from the project
The project was designed to evaluate the problems and possibilities associated with an integration of a sunscreen solution in modern insulated glazing units, as well as the commercial potential of such products. The risk factors of integrating a sunscreen solution were identified, and a work plan of further studies to ensure the function of the product has been defined and budgeted. A cost analysis comparing the sunscreen solution with existing alternatives was also performed, taking into consideration the expected market demand for this type of product.
Expected long term effects
The project resulted in the identification of the risk factors associated with an integration of sunscreen solutions in modern insulated glazing units. Special attention was put on the investigation and evaluation of the principal difficulty with the studied solution. The future work needed to be able to introduce the product on the market was identified and budgeted. The project also raised the awareness of issues with the function of modern insulated glazing units that previously have been ignored, which can cause changes in future designs of insulated glazing units.
Approach and implementation
The project was initially organized to answer questions surrounding the integration of a sunscreen solution in insulated glazing units. During the project difficulties were identified that turned out to be far more advanced than originally anticipated. The necessary work to be able to introduce the product on the market has been identified, and thus laid the foundation for a possible development project. The project has also provided valuable information about the functionality of modern insulated glazing units that were not originally planned.
