Important results from the project
The project is considered to largely meet the objectives. Streetmeter has been further developed technically and methodologically and integrated with Streetmix. The tool has been tested in several municipalities and internationally, and works well in street projects and urban planning. The research-based report Guide to Street Values has been launched as a complement to Streetmeter. Streetmeter has been presented internationally. Some parts, such as AI generation, require continued funding.
Expected long term effects
Streetmeter and its knowledge base report are expected to gain wide use and shift street planning from a car-focused to a value-based approach. By highlighting more than traffic flow, they support goal-driven planning for sustainability, better health, safety, and social cohesion. The tool helps visualize values like climate adaptation, air quality, equity, safety, and vibrant urban life.
Approach and implementation
The project has been carried out by Spacescape and RISE together with the American Streetplans and Streetmix. The project includes development of Streetmeter on the web, development with AI, tests in urban planning and street projects, a researchbased guide/report and conferences. The work is based on collaboration between municipalities, researchers, consultants and developers. The project has mainly followed the schedule. Development with AI has potential, but requires additional resources.
