Reference number
Coordinator Bjerking AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 684 000
Project duration March 2019 - January 2020
Status Completed
Venture Strengthening Sweden’s role in international standardization
Call Standardization in order to gain access to new markets

Purpose and goal

The purpose was to study the feasibility of two ideas, limited to the interior design industry: 1. Standard for digital information exchange (SDI) on sustainability requirements and compliance declarations, facilitating work with Agenda 2030. 2. Digitized Standardization Procedure (DAS), which increases the participation of SMEs in standardization work. The objectives were to: 1. Identify problems, actions, benefits related to SDI and DAS. 2. Create vision for SDI and DAS design. 3. Recommend how SDI and DAS can be developed, by whom and how to fund it.

Expected results and effects

Conclusion: 1. A standard for digital information exchange (SDI) regarding sustainability requirements and compliance declarations is possible. 2. Further studies are needed to assess whether / how a digitized standardization approach (DAS) can increase the participation of SMEs in standardization work. The SDI issue has been raised to the building industry through collaboration with the industry´s ongoing standardization work at GS1 Sweden on product identities and transfer of product information. A first effect is to create globally unique identities for requirements.

Planned approach and implementation

Within the scope (initially interior design and later also the building industry), the project has: - Studied existing standards for requirements terminology and exchange of requirements. - Analyzed terminology, content, logic and structure of sustainability requirements in different levels (laws, local regulations, industry specific, organization specific, project specific, brands, certifications and standards). - Interviewed actors producing sustainability requirements. - Influenced the building industry´s standardization work through collaboration.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
