SME DCC -Joint flow battery demonstrator: Digital Cellulose Center

Reference number
Coordinator Rivus AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 465 000
Project duration October 2025 - April 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture Competence centre

Purpose and goal

This is an SME-project within the frames of the Vinnova Competence Center " Digital Cellulose Center "(DCC). We validate organic flow batteries with cellulose membranes using demo cells and a Redoxme–Rivus–Cellfion setup. Focus is on electrolyte/membrane performance: cycling stability, crossover, resistance, and efficiency. Lab tests under oxygen-free conditions are documented in a video, highlighting key technical challenges and guiding future research.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to provide a development basis for a collaboration between Cellfion, Rivus and Redoxme - three actors that develop different components for flow batteries. Test results will be used to guide the three companies´ respective development. Video material will help highlight research challenges and provide an educational basis for how a flow battery works and what components it contains.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is being implemented in three work packages where Redoxme manufactures demonstration cells, Cellfion supplies cellulose-based membranes and Rivus produces electrolytes, assembles and tests the stacks and produces a video that documents the process and shows the technology´s potential for future research.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
