| Call | Shelters of the future - practical prototypes for shelters and protected spaces of tomorrow |
Purpose and goal
There is a shortage of protected spaces in single-family homes and rural areas, where 40-50% of the population lives. The aim is to develop visionary concepts and at least one prototype demonstrating design, requirements, and use, while informing future development. Use cases beyond war and crisis should also be explored. Early involvement of users and stakeholders will strengthen prospects for continued development.
Expected effects and result
New ideas for protected spaces beyond urban norms. A prototype will demonstrate how such spaces can be integrated into everyday settings, such as garages and shared rural facilities. The project will generate knowledge for use in peace, crisis, and war, support future planning and investment, and raise awareness of shelter needs and responsibilities.
Planned approach and implementation
Through exploratory design, the project will develop practice-oriented concepts and at least one prototype for future shelters and protected spaces in single-family homes and rural areas, including everyday use. Needs owners, users, and stakeholders will be involved from the ideation stage to support future development. RISE AB leads the project with Boid AB, the Swedish Homeowners Association, and SBAB Bank AB. Project period: September 2026 to May 2027.
