Important results from the project

The goal of LIGHTer PhD network is to strengthen the education of doctors in disciplines relevant to lightweight to enable major future technological leaps through increased collaboration and broader perspective on lightweight. The students in the network are introduced by researchers, which provides multidisciplinary research collaboration. The activities include a joint course, doctoral seminars, an annual doctoral conference and a study visit by young researchers from Austria and Slovakia.

Expected long term effects

The long-term goal is that the network consisting of doctoral students/doctors, researchers in academia and institutes will, together with industry, meet future challenges in sustainability. With over 150 doctoral students and a large number of people from industry, there are many exciting connections. By linking our national network to European counterparts, the possibility of even stronger forms of collaboration increases. Long-term can be anything from next year to decades in the future.

Approach and implementation

The network activities include courses, seminars and an annual doctoral conference coordinated with other LIGHTer activities such as the international conference. The course activities consist of the joint course in lightweight, a number of basic courses and other courses given at Swedish universities relevant to lightweight. To further stimulate participation, funding is offered to all doctoral students who complete the general basic course and present at selected international conferences.
