Purpose and goal
The project will establish and validate a simulation-based methodology for precision casting of nickel-based superalloys and demonstrate it at TRL 6 in a relevant industrial environment. The goal is to increase simulation accuracy, reduce qualification time and technical risk, and create a standardized approach for simulation, validation, and data management that strengthens Swedish industrial capability and security of supply.
Expected effects and result
- Validated cases for flow and solidification simulation of investment casting. - Design Practice for industrial use. - Identified uncertainties, data gaps and future sensor needs. - Shorter development cycles, lower scrapping and faster industrialization. - Increased robustness and flexibility in defense-relevant supply chains
Planned approach and implementation
The project is implemented in five work packages: project management, eligibility requirements and data inventory, method development, industrial validation and implementation. The simulation methodology for flow and solidification is developed and verified against real casting tests. The results are used to create standardized working methods, identify improvement needs and develop a plan for continued industrial implementation.
