Venture Collaboration projects in cybersecurity and digital infrastructure

Purpose and goal

The goal of this project was to evaluate the possibilities for a H2020 application in the area of cyber security, privacy and accountability. The original idea considered a framework exporting novel security & privacy solutions and enabling the development of IoT Smart Home systems and applications that are secure, privacy-oriented and accountable by design. The project successfully improved the original idea and built an international top-level consortium. This resulted in a submitted H2020 proposal for a follow-up EU project.

Expected results and effects

The result of the project was a high quality proposal for a follow-up Research & Innovation EU project, submitted to the Horizon 2020 RIA call "SU-ICT-02-2020 Building blocks for resilience in evolving ICT systems". The consortium includes a total of 13 partners from 5 different EU countries, including large companies, research institutes and academia, as well as SMEs. If this proposal is granted, the follow-up project will start in 2020, for a total duration of three years.

Planned approach and implementation

The project improved the initial idea for a follow-up project, on a secure, accountable and privacy-aware framework to manage Smart Home systems. Initial concepts were developed to ensure broader applicability, and to cover legal, quality and usability aspects. Effort was put on building an EU consortium, with commitment and interest in the follow-up project, covering industry and research/academic community. The idea development and consortium building were facilitated by regular phone calls and by three physical meetings.
