Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to establish a testbed for the development of analysis and sorting techniques in recycling. The goal was to create a neutral platform to promote innovation and collaboration between actors along the entire value chain in recycling and with several pilot projects show what is possible. An open test environment with infrastructure and expertise is available for collaboration, testing and development, and pilot projects and short investigations have been carried out with successful experiments on plastics, metals and WEEE.
Expected long term effects
With the project, a physical testbed with an infrastructure has been built, where actors can test, verify or develop new technologies for recycling, with different types of material flows. Pilot projects have been carried out that can serve as good examples of what is possible with the testbed. The project is expected to eventually result in increased functional material recycling, increased detoxification, and a more cost-effective material recycling where secondary raw materials become more competitive compared to virgin raw materials.
Approach and implementation
The project has been carried out in collaboration between 11 project parties, represented from the entire value chain in recycling: from component manufacturers to recyclers and producers. The parties have worked together to specify, build and evaluate the testbed with several pilot and development projects. Monthly project meetings / workshops have been held with the project group as well as external meetings with other test beds and relevant actors and two external seminars (inauguration and completion of the test bed) and presentation of the testbed at conferences.
