Important results from the project

The project aimed to enhance the knowledge of, be active in, and contribute to, the development of the international metrology system by seconding a visiting scientist to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) for two years. The objectives: - monitor the processes related to the Mutual Recognition Arrangement agreed by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM MRA) - contribute to the implementation of the new BIPM key comparison database (KCDB) - update the CIPM MRA documents All objectives have been met.

Expected long term effects

KCDB 2.0 was launched in October 2019 and the older KCDB and JCRB CMC website merged. The new platform has increased the transparency in the system and the time from submissision to publication has been reduced to less than a half. The CIPM MRA documents were reduced from twenty-seven to six and the information wihin has been significantly clarified. This promises to enhance the understanding of the CIPM MRA processes and outcomes for both internal and external stakeholders (e.g. accreditation bodies and standardization organizations).

Approach and implementation

The secondment to the BIPM has been very succesful in spite of restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The host organization (BIPM), other external stakeholders (RMOs and NMIs) and the visiting scientist have all appreciated the secondment. This is perhaps best expressed through an extension of the secondment until July 2021.
