Search memory

Reference number
Coordinator MEMOBIT TECHNOLOGIES AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration April 2015 - December 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Develop a novel type of search database for communications networks. The target application is integrated circuits in routers and switches. The project aims to design the hardware and software to enable a demonstration, and to characterize price, performance and power metrics. The technology is based on new, patent pending algorithms.

Expected results and effects

The Memobit solution uniquely solves a wide range of use cases: Exact match, longest prefix match, ternary match and range match. The power consumption is exceptionally low for ternary/range match used for access control/firewall. Unlike algorithmic TCAM solutions table management can be done at fast speed with a small memory footprint.

Planned approach and implementation

The project developed hardware and software in parallel. First hardware and software was verified at the register level. Then the complete system was simulated for different use cases. Most of the project time was spent to minimize power consumption. The solution has been refined and redesigned during numerous iterations. The finished solution meets our high requirements on power efficiency, while mainlining price, performance and software efficiency.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
