Important results from the project
Reduced complexity of sustainability system analyses. Prepare international standardization of system boundary choices for environmental calculations, such as environmental damage costs, life cycle analyses and environmental performance for infrastructure, industry, circular economy, finance and procurement. Facilitate interpretation and use of sustainability system studies for sustainable production, consumption and decision making. Deliverables: - Investigation, based on literature studies, workshops, analysis. - Draft ISO standardization proposals.
Expected long term effects
International agreement on system boundaries has great economic opportunities for Swedish exports. Sweden has broad political consensus on the “polluter pays principle” and tax shift fromn work to environmental impact (S, C, L). Swedish export industry is at the forefront in terms of environment and sustainability, with even more potential, but need to get paid for it by highlighting the values of environmental benefits. The financial significance of this can be roughly 296 bn SEK/yr, based on "polluter pays principle". It requires mutual system boundaries for system calculations.
Approach and implementation
Stakeholder analysis: SIS and ISO relevant standardization networks and other stakeholder networks Literature study: formal, ad hoc and de facto standards. Swedish Life Cycle Center workshops, ISO / TC 207 and SIS / TK 207. Concept development and report base: Frequent web meetings and research material exchange between the experts in the project. Final seminar / workshop at Swedish Life Cycle Center where results, discussions and draft ISO / NWIP (New work) item proposal) was presented. Finalreporting: Discussion final report, results and draft ISO / NWIP
