Important results from the project

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** aim of the project has been to develop new, alternative methods to keep reindeer off public roads and thereby reduce the risk of accidents in the form of reindeer collisions. During two years, methods have been tested and these have turned out well and produced the accident-reducing effects that were expected. The number of reindeer collisions has, for example, decreased by approx. 50%.

Expected long term effects

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The number of reindeer collisions has decreased significantly. Between the year closest to the start of the project in 2020 and the full year of 2022 and the fall of 2023, accidents / reindeer collisions decreased by approx. 50%.

Approach and implementation

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The analysis of the arrangement shows that it has largely gone as planned and expected. The technical solutions, mainly regarding the summoning device itself (electronic bell/bell) were, and still are, not fully developed. The project group with Sattajärvi Sameby, Kaunis Iron AB, Trafikverket, LKAB, LTU and Swedish Mining Innovation (SMI) has usually met twice a year, during which they evaluated and reflected on issues related to the project. The project has also participated in the SMRID conference in Luleå on two occasions.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
