Reference number
Coordinator RECAB Embedded Computers AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 948 959
Project duration February 2015 - November 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of our technology project has been to develop a standardized microTCA platform, with improved performance, that can be customized in accordance customer specifications. The purpose has been to address the market demand for rugged and more compact server solutions to be implemented in extreme environments.

Expected results and effects

Our project result is in accordance to our expectations as we have identified a design that enables our server solution to have a size and weight of one-third compared to current state-of-the-art server solutions. Moreover, our server solution involves increased performance and capacity as it includes an increased bandwidth, an improved graphic resolution, 4th generation Intel CPUs, as well as 1 TB of removable computer storage. Furthermore, our rugged server platform fully enclosed and includes a conductive cooling system to withstand extreme physical environments

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been implemented in accordance with our project plan and has included five work packages; (1) Requirement specifications and Design, (2) Prototyping, (3) Test & Qualification, (4) Production process, and (5) Documentation. During the project we have worked closely with our project partner JJ Mechatronics but also established relationships with potential customers. We have achieved our goal and developed a standardized microTCA platform, with improved performance, that can be customized in accordance customer specifications.
