Call FFI Accelerera the transition to sustainable road transport - spring 2025

Purpose and goal

The background is a deficient public transport in sparsely populated areas, currently based on traditional production with large buses with low utilization, infrequent departures and thus a deficient service. The project targets a system demonstration where the existing bus route network is replaced with a trunk line with stops for boarding and transfers from/to DRT (Demand Responsive transport) with smaller autonomous vehicles in a new model in Stockholm´s sparsely populated areas.

Expected effects and result

Objective with the preparatory project is a project plan with: ● Technical verification of feasibility. ● Specification of development for DRT in Region Stockholms SL-app. ● Investigate traffic diversion and adaptations of stops. ● Traveler perspective: Gap analysis of the interface between traveler and autonomous service. ● Describe business models, regulations for autonomous vehicles and possible standardization. ● Describe solutions for digital and physical infrastructure.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is being implemented with Sustinable Innovation as the project manager and coordinator of the project´s five work packages. These are: 1. Project management and dissemination: Sustainable Innovation 2. Technical verification - RFI: Sustainable Innovation, Region Stockholm 3. On-demand autonomous traffic: Region Stockholm 4.
