Important results from the project
The purpose and objectives of the project have been met by: * A new sample preparation method has been developed * A large collection and mapping has been carried out * Collaborations have begun with new development partners, companies and public decision makers.
Expected long term effects
Results: A new method of sample preparation has been developed for regulated chemicals in recycled plastics. A collection of recycled materials from 10 European recyclers in Europe has been carried out. The collection provides a zero image of the presence of controlled chemicals and can be used for several future studies. A study of the levels of brominated flame retardants has already been carried out and published in a report. Expected effects: The project has created the conditions for better decision making regarding regulated chemicals in recycled plastics.
Approach and implementation
The development of a customized sample preparation method that better reflected the reality was done with industrial players. The collection of materials was facilitated when industrial actors had approved the sample preparation method and were conducted with public decision makers.
