Reference number
Coordinator Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet - Institutionen för Landskapsarkutektur, planering och förvaltning
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration December 2015 - April 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project aims to strengthen the use of residual heat in an urban context by implementing an innovation competition with high profile which leads to constuction of a number of pilot plants. The objectives has been to build a strong consortium with expertise, broad network and resources that can support and implement the competition and clarify the conditions and concrete modalities for the implementation. The goal is met and we now have a strong consortium with good resources. We have thereby taken a step towards fulfilling the objectives.

Results and expected effects

The expectation is that residual heat is utilized for biological production in urban contexts. This results in reduced energy consumption and supply of locally/on-site produced fish and vegetables that reduce transports. This also provides positive social impact by increasing employment and providing meeting places and educational opportunities. The project aims to arrange an innovation competition that leads to construction of 3-4 facilities. The impact is therefore in the future. The now completed project is a necessary condition for the effects to be achieved.

Approach and implementation

The project is based on experiences from our implemented innovation competition 2015. We have had basically the same partners and the same persons responsible and we have used the experience to create a more developed and stronger concept for the upcoming competition. We have had a very broad process through the existing partners to attract additional partners which has been successful. We have added strong partners to the constellation that can contribute with what is required to implement a competition with a high profile, which had been difficult within the existing constellation.
