Status Ongoing

Purpose and goal

Our project explores how existing buildings can be adapted with minimal intervention, allowing function and use to follow the building’s conditions rather than the other way around. By applying restoration and conservation methods in a new context, we aim to challenge conventional approaches to renovation and demonstrate how small changes can have a significant impact. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we develop strategies for transformation.

Expected effects and result

The expected results of the project are a new methodology for sustainable renovation of existing buildings that is based on the building´s own conditions and combines conservation with innovation. The project will result in practical tools, example projects, documentation and policy recommendations that can be used by property owners, architects and decision-makers.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be carried out in three phases: first, an inventory and analysis of the buildings’ existing structures and needs; second, practical testing of subtractive and additive transformation methods; and finally, a synthesis of the results to develop a new model for sustainable renovation. The work will be interdisciplinary and include workshops, interviews, case studies, and continuous documentation
